General Manager
Job Summary:
The General Manager of .Com Marketing is responsible for the overall management and profitability of the agency. The four operating departments of the agency: Creative/Production; Account Service; Search Marketing; and Financial; plus the new business executive, report directly to the General Manager.
The General Manager is responsible for all the agency's accounts. Even though the General Manager does not contact these accounts on a daily basis, the General Manager should maintain a regular dialog between the client and the agency at a level other than the daily contact level.
The General Manager is fully responsible for the personnel function in the agency. People are so important to the business that choosing them is a vital ingredient for success. This is not to say that the departmental managers do not have significant input in hiring the operational people in their respective department. It is to say that the General Manager should authorize and personally approve each hire. This duty also includes yearly reviews, raises, reprimands and terminations.
Duties:
Responsible for overall financial and corporate administration of the company
Maintains contact with senior personnel in client organization
Supervises department managers
Solicits new business and directs new business program
Provides direction and assistance as required to Account Executives and/or other employees
Provides input on all plans, creative, etc., and approves contents before presentation to clients
Approves all major purchases and capital expenditures with final approval from President
Provides final arbitration on billing to clients
Conducts executive performance reviews and all employee salary reviews. Interviews applicants for executive positions and applicants for support positions as recommended by subordinate supervisory personnel
Makes final decisions on all offers of employment
Establishes corporate policies
Establishes long-term corporate objectives
Makes final decisions on client contracts
Maintains corporate image in advertising community
Duties Relating to New Business:
Allows between 30-40% of their time for new business activities
Signs all important new business correspondence
Attends new business presentations (but not necessarily all contacts)
Is fully alerted to all new business activities and the list of prime prospects to prevent short-circuiting the new business team's efforts
Keeps in touch with all current clients on a regular basis. These are the best sources of new billings, new brand assignments
Is publicity conscious. Plays the role of "new business ambassador"
Is well prepared and as well rehearsed as the rest of the "pitch" team
Is able to handle the entire new business pitch single-handedly if needed
